Here are some helpful things to note about Pfadfinder scarves, uniforms and badges.

What you need

Each child and leader needs a Scouts Australia uniform shirt. These are available from the Scout Shop online which offers free delivery. Scouting youth shirts cost about $37. Alternatively, you can hunt around op shops, look on Gumtree or Facebook, or ask the Leader if there are any second-hand shirts in our clothing pool. In the tradition of Scouting, uniform shirts are donated to the clothing pool by families who have moved up to the next section or moved away, and are free.

After your child is enrolled, they will be “invested” in a special little welcoming ceremony. They will be given a Pfadfinder scout scarf, a woggle and some badges.

Keep your uniform safe

A scout scarf is for your whole scouting life, and will have many exciting adventures with you. Please encourage your child to treat theirs with respect, wear it every week to Pfadfinder, and keep it safe other times.

Please label your child’s scarf with their name along the top hem (at the top center, where the yellow and red meet, writing in a straight line across the top (the longest side of the scarf)).

Wearing your uniform

Some badges don’t go on the uniform, but can go on a camp blanket or anywhere else you’d like to collect them. Any blanket that you would take camping is a good scout camp blanket.

Moving up or away?

As your child approaches their 9th, 12th or 15th birthday, please remind the Group Leader so we can organise for them to move up to the next section (and get a new colour sleeved shirt).

The tradition in scouting is to donate your scout shirt (once you have outgrown it) to the group, for someone else to use. Many families have benefitted from the uniform pool already.

If your child is moving away and has no attachment to their scarf, we would love to have that back as a donation to the uniform pool, too.

Lost something?

New woggles can be purchased from the group at $5. Alternatively, you might prefer to learn the friendship knot and use that instead of a woggle sometimes. Children may make their own fun woggles as well.

Replacement scarves are $30 each.
